Lanterns and Great Torii, Itsukushima Shrine, Miyajima Island. The shrine was founded in the 6th century. The present structures date from 1168, in the late Heian period. The torii, made of camphor wood, has been rebuilt in 1875. It is one of the most popular attractions in Japan.
