Jones, Inigo (1573-1652)
Queen's House from the south, Greenwich. The building was commissioned by King James I for his wife Anne of Denmark, and after her death, the new Queen Henrietta Maria. The architect Inigo Jones built it in 1616-19 and 1629-35. The colonnades were added in 1816. From 1808 to 1933 it was occupied by the Naval Asylum School (renamed the Royal Hospital School in 1821). Since 1937 it houses the National Maritime Museum.
