Glazed tiles roofs with akroteria. Inner Court, Imperial Palace (Forbidden City), Beijing. The Imperial Palace was originally built in 1406-20 by emperor Yongle. It underwent modifications and additions during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The akroterion in the form of a dragon that bytes the end of the ridgepole is called chiwen in Chinese architecture.
