Back cover of the Gospel of Lorsch (Evangeliary of Udalrich) with ivory plaques that resemble consular diptychs from Ravenna or Rome and are datable to ca. 450. This lavishly decorated Gospel lectionary belongs to a group of manuscripts in which is mentioned an Oudalricus peccator (Udalrich the sinner), who has been connected to Udalrich (d. 1075), abbot of the monastery of Lorsch, Germany. The precious binding is decorated with an ivory table on both front and back covers. Clm 23630.
