Jason Carrying off the Golden Fleece. 1630s. On the right, Medea assists Jason to remove the Golden Fleece from the branches of the tree while the sleeping dragon lies beneath. Orpheus summons the god of sleep to work his spells on the dragon, by playing his musical instrument. Far left in the background is the Argo, the ship which brought Jason and his companions to Colchis. Pen and brown ink with wash, heightened with white, 39.8 x 53.4 cm. Inv. PD 1941,1108.16.
