Black granite statue of Sarenput, Egyptian, 12th Dynasty, c1900 BC. The seated statue of Sarenput is in two incomplete parts; here we see the upper torso and head. Sarenput was the governor of the southernmost province of Egypt, which centred on the island of Elephantine at modern Aswan.
