'The Ascent of Lunardi's Balloon from St George's Fields', c1790. The third ascent of Vincenzo Lunardi's hot air balloon from Newington, London, on the 29th June 1785. Tickets were sold for the event and a great crowd assembled. The balloon has been decorated with the Union flag. (Lunardi was secretary to the Neapolitan Ambassador in England.) Oil on canvas.
