Serpent Column, bronze replica of the column built as an offering to Apollo in 447 BC, later moved to Constantinople, in Delphi, Greece. Behind is the Altar of the Chians, built c. 330 BC by the people of Chios, and the Temple of Apollo, or Apollonion, built 4th century BC in the Doric order by Spintharos Xenodoros and Agathon. The ancient city of Delphi was the seat of the oracle Pythia and the centre of the world to the ancient Greeks.
