Marble block carved with Jewish star, radiated cross, triangle and pair of ears, marble, Carolingian period, 9th century AD, in the Palais-Musee des Archeveques de Narbonne, in Narbonne, Aude, Occitania, France. The block was in the former Eglise de la Major or Eglise Sainte-Marie Major, now a private home in Narbonne. Jews from Baghdad were invited to settle in Narbonne by Pepin the Short in the 8th century, and a Jewish centre of learning was established in the city. The Palais des Archeveques or Archbishop's Palace, built 12th - 14th century, now houses the city hall and museums and is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
