Tympanum of the Last Judgement and Christ in Majesty, 13th century, over the central portal of the Basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes, or Basilica of Saint Urban of Troyes, a 13th century Gothic church in Troyes, Aube, France. At the top, Christ sits on a throne flanked by 2 angels with the apostles at his feet. Below are the Virgin and St John and below them, Paradise on the left, with Abraham and angels welcoming the souls of the righteous, and Hell on the right, with demons with the souls of sinners and an open-mouthed Leviathan. The basilica was founded in 1262 under Pope Urban IV and consecrated in 1382, although the building was not completed until the 20th century. It is listed as a national monument.
