Ajlun Castle, Jordan. Ajlun Castle was built in 1184-1185 by Izz al-Din Usama, a nephew of Saladin, to protect the surrounding area against Crusader attacks from Karak and Bisan. Its military importance declined after Karak fell to Saladin's forces in 1189.
