Caractacus in Rome, 52 (1864). Caractacus was king of the Catuvellauni and leader of the British resistance against the Romans. He was captured in 51 and taken to Rome. He was allowed to address the Roman senate and made such an impression that he was pardoned and allowed to live in peace in Rome. He is shown here after his release. From a private collection.
