Interior of Hexham Abbey, Northumberland, 2010. Hexham Abbey was originally founded as a Benedictine Monastery in the 7th century but was replaced by an Augustinian priory in Norman times. Much of the church dates from this time (c1170-1250). The priory was closed in 1537 by the Dissolution of the Monasteries but the chuch survived as Hexham's parish church.
