Southern transept, Cathedral of San Salvador, 12th-14th century, Avila, Castile and Leon, Spain. Avila Cathedral is a strong, fortress-like cathedral adjoining the famous medieval city walls. The presbytery located in the wall and part of the walls oriented to the transept are Late Romanesque style. The development of the naves, its vaults and the two towers (one of them unfinished) are in first Gothic style.
