Apses in the main chamber of the Urn tomb, 1st century AD, Petra, Ma'an, Jordan. This Royal Nabatean tomb was probably built c. 70 AD for King Malichos II and was converted to a Christan church in 446-7 AD, when these apses were carved. It is also known as 'The Court' as it was used as a courthouse in Roman times. Petra was the capital and royal city of the Nabateans, Arabic desert nomads.
