Pinturicchio, Bernardino (1454-1513)
The Piccolomini Library, the ceiling: “Diana and Endymion”, fresco by Bernardino di Betto, known as Pinturicchio. In the panel Diana, in love with the shepherd Endymion who had been given the eternal sleep to spare him from old age and death, descends from her chariot accompanied by the Hours, goddesses of the seasons, one of whom carries a basket of flowers. A cupid precedes Diana to place a crown on the sleeping shepherd.
