Anonymous, 19th century
Roundel depicting Lan Caihe, one of The Eight Immortals. China, Qing dynasty, 19th century. Lan Caihe's basket is associated with life saving medicinal herbs and flowers, although here (and often in other places) it is depicted as a floral basket. Although he is known to wear only one shoe and go barefoot in the other foot, in this roundel he is depicted with both feet protected. Embroidered silk, diam. 25 cm. Inv. FE.123D-1983.
