Forteresse de Salses or Salses Fortress, aerial view, a 15th century catalan fortress in Salses-le-Chateau, Pyrenees-Orientales, Catalogne du Nord, France. The fort was designed by Francisco Ramiro Lopez and built 1497-1502 under Ferdinand II of Aragon to protect the border between the Principality of Catalonia and France. The building is part-buried and has 7 levels with 10m thick walls, and is surrounded by a dry moat. The fort was taken by the French in 1642. It is listed as a national monument.
