Erich Lessing has been documenting the culture and fine arts of Europe and the Near East for more than thirty years. He is arguably today’s leading independent photographer of the arts of the Western world, and his collection of 30,000 high-quality, large format transparencies is available through Art Resource.

The collection includes extensive coverage of artifacts and sites of the ancient world, from biblical and post-biblical Israel and the splendors of the Egyptian pharaohs, to the civilizations of Mesopotamia, Phoenicia, Greece, and Rome.

Later Western art is also carefully catalogued, beginning with the churches and mosaics of the early Christian era through the medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods, and on to the painting of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The archive comprises works from many museums and private collections throughout the world, including a thorough coverage of such institutions as: the Louvre and Musée d'Orsay in Paris, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Uffizi in Florence, the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, the Prado in Madrid and many more.
